An Operating System is the low-level software that manages a computer. It handles the way your hardware functions, the communication with peripherals including a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between all the applications, plus the prioritization of applications if multiple ones run at the same time. Any program that's installed on a computer system operates by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS can be achieved using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting world, the OS is what commands a web hosting server together with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition every other application for example a VOIP or a game server. When there're virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that runs on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server
packages include three Linux releases that you may choose from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being 100 % free, the OSs are very stable and protected and the primary reason to offer you the 3 of them is to ensure that you can run each app that you'd like, because different pieces of software could have different requirements with regards to the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is supported by a vast community of web developers who have produced many hundreds of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to handle your website hosting content. Of course, if you decide that you need a different OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server
packages - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're totally free so they won't increase the price of your new hosting server, but also because they are very stable and secure. Each of them is backed up by a vast community of developers, so you will be able to choose from countless software packages that you could install on your server if the app that you intend to employ has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what web hosting Control Panel you can use since the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with particular OSs only and because we want to provide you with as much flexibility as possible, we offer a couple of OSs and multiple Control Panels. In case you get a server with a given Operating System, we can change it upon request if it turns out that you'll need a different one. We could also keep your OS updated weekly as a part of the optional Managed Services upgrade.
